The 190th session of the Executive Board of UNESCO
- Her Excellency Ambassador Lamia Shakkour, the Permanent Delegate of Syria for UNESCO, participated in the 190th session of the Executive Board held at the organization's headquarters in Paris during the period from 3rd to 18th October 2012.

- This session discussed several issues and items related to the projects and plans of the organization adopted by UNESCO's budget for the next financial period ( 2014-2017), and the medium-term draft strategy for the period (2014-2021) after several consultative meetings with State Members. In addition to discuss the items of the five resolutions concerning the Arab region, which are :
1.The Mughrabi Gate ramp in the Old City of Jerusalem.
2.Jerusalem.
3. The Palestinian sites of al-Haram al-Ibrahimi/Tomb of the Patriarchs in Al-Khalil / Hebron and the Bilal bin Rabah Mosque/Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem.
4.Educational and cultural institutions in the Occupied Arab territories.
5.The reconstruction of Gaza.

- The adoption of these five resolutions was postponed to the 191th session of the Executive Board after the Syrian Arab Republic solely supported the Russian Federation proposal of postponing it.

- The Ambassador delivered a statement on behalf of Dr.Hazwan Alwaz ,Minister of Education in the general session on the 9th of October 2012. H.E welcomed the initiative of "Learning first" that was initiated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and led by UNESCO. H.E stressed that Syria continues to support the approach of H.E Irina Bokova, the Director-General of UNESCO to reform the organization, and her new policy in the field of human resources.

- Moreover, he pointed out the deep faith of Syrian Government in the importance of the international cooperation represented by the works of United Nations Organizations and the support provided by all Members States. He confirmed that the Ministry of Education in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates are keen to pay the country contributions for UNESCO, despite the banns, sanctions, and the unfair international action against the Syrian people right and its national institutions.
