Participated, in the regional consultative meeting for the Arab region about the announcement of the draft outcomes of the exceptional session of the Global Education Meeting 2020, which is a prelude to the exceptional high-level session of the Global Education 2030 meeting.
At the meeting, the procedures with the recommended priority were reviewed for the 2020 Global Meeting. The meeting reviewed the priority actions recommended, through thematic discussions, and consolidation of the comments of the main stakeholders on the declaration to be submitted to the high-level meeting. The consultation discussions addressed points of how to reflect the context of Arab countries in the draft declaration, with special attention for ensuring the rights in education, emphasizing its inclusiveness, and the reflection of the impact of the Corona pandemic on the education sector and its process.
Participants in the discussions focused on specific regional challenges to ensure the right of education in a global context, which are currently focused on short-term responses of public health, economic and social care, and financial support needed to prepare schools to reopen them. The challenges related to the protection of distance teaching resources, the need for alternatives to distant learning, while emphasizing the comprehensiveness of education and its service to the most marginalized groups, and virtual training of teachers on teaching methods via internet, and updating curricula to adapt new learning methods were also taken into consideration.
Also, during the meeting, Dr. Al-Ghazouli and Khadour made two interventions in which they clarified the efforts of the Ministry of Education in the Syrian Arab Republic to safely open for academic year that started on September 13th, 2020; and the challenges we face from the exit of a large number of schools from service, high classroom density, and the economic crisis that limits the possibility of providing preventive means.
